What’s going on?

Tanzania is facing a severe humanitarian crisis following several days of deadly protests and political unrest. The nationwide internet shutdown, combined with a recently imposed curfew, has left many people isolated, unable to work, and struggling to access essential resources. Sadly, an estimated more than 700 lives have already been lost, and countless families have been separated from loved ones during this difficult time.

In major cities such as Arusha, Mwanza, and Dar es Salaam, the impact has been devastating. Many people have gone days without food. With the internet and transportation disrupted and supply chains broken, resulting in extreme shortages of food and fuel. Prices have soared, tripling in some areas, particularly as supplies from food-producing regions have been cut off. The shortage of cash, food, and fuel has impacted daily life and compounded the challenges facing already vulnerable communities.

As Tanzania struggles to assess the true impact, the need for urgent humanitarian support is clear. GHSEN is launching the Tanzania Emergency Humanitarian Fund to deliver critical food assistance to those most in need. We have committed $1,000 of our own funds and aim to raise a total of $5,000 to help families who have not eaten in days.

Your contribution can make an immediate, life-saving difference. Together, let’s stand together for Tanzania and Tanzanians in this time of crisis.

Arusha Citizen

“The situation now is very bad, especially in terms of food security for my community. Many people are without food due to the rising cost of living, and many also have no money after being in lockdown for several days.”

Arusha Citizen

“We used to depend on daily work to support our families. The lockdown has taken away our only source of income, and now our children go to bed hungry. Any assistance with food or supplies would mean so much to us.”

Our love for Tanzania runs deep.
